La voix humaine
The Maltings and soprano Tamsin Davidson are ambitious for this production, aiming to do Berwick and Berwick Festival Opera proud. We’ve recently agreed that more development time is needed to do full justice to our plans for the production than our current busy schedules allow. We’ll announce new dates for 2017 as soon as possible.
Date: RESCHEDULED DATE TBC
Venue: Henry Travers Studio, The Maltings, Berwick-upon-Tweed
A high-octane one act opera for soprano and accompanying pianist - a single character in a single room - starring Berwick-based soprano and Berwick Festival Opera favourite Tamsin Davidson.
The opera is based on the play of the same name by Jean Cocteau, who worked closely with Poulenc on the libretto in preparation for the opera’s premiere in 1959. It recounts the last tragic phone call between an anonymous woman known only as ‘Elle’ and the lover who’s spurned her - emotionally tense, touching and striking in its simplicity, this is perfect material for an intensely intimate Studio Theatre performance.
Sung in French, with titles.
