Date: Fri 19 & Sat 20 June 2015, 7pm
Venue: Caesar’s Palace (Former Forth Bingo Hall), 19-21 Hide Hill, Berwick-upon-Tweed
Playing to two sold out audiences, Rocket Opera and The Maltings kicked off 2015's Berwick Festival Opera with the Gilbert & Sullivan classic.
As the first production performed in the freshly rennovated Caesar's Palace (an old cinema/theatre/night club/bingo hall in the centre of Berwick-upon-Tweed), the venue was utilised to not only highight the magnificent history and many historical uses of the space, but to introduce a brand new juxtaposing style and theme; the Titipu Karaoke club and Cosplay Convention.
Upon entering the space, the audiences were greeted by members of staff dressed as Spiderman, Princess Leia and Scarlet Witch, and once sat in their seats, the crowds were introduced to the evening's Nanki Poo; carrying a guitar and wearing a white jumpsuit, gold sunglasses and black wig!
Featuring a brand new re-orchestration by The Maltings' CEO/Artistic Director Matthew Rooke for a 10 piece band consisting of Violin, Violas, Cello, Double Bass, Flute, Clarinet/Bass, Bassoon, Trumpet & Percussion.
