Venue: Main House Theatre, The Maltings, Berwick-upon-Tweed
Following acclaimed productions of The Rape of Lucretia and Albert Herring, the University of St Andrews in-house Opera Company reunites with director Tania Holland Williams to tour Benjamin Britten’s chilling chamber opera - The Turn of the Screw.
This spine-tingling adaptation of a Henry James short story tells the tragic tale of two small children haunted by two servants ‘with horrible intentions’. A drama dripping with tension and ambiguity that has tantalised audiences for over 50 years. A gothic romance with a faltering heroine fighting the supernatural forces of evil? Or a mesmerising character study of an insane, repressed woman? This is opera at its most gripping.
A chamber orchestra of leading Scottish musicians will be conducted by Michael Downes.
Age guidance 8+.
